Biographie

Digital Underground est un groupe de rap fondé en 1987 originaire d'Oakland en Californie. Ce groupe protéïforme très influencé par le Funk des années 1970 et le P-Funk a été moteur de la vague de Rap West Coast dans les années 1990. Sex Packet, leur premier album repose sur un canular, une drogue qu'aurait fabriqué la NASA pour les cosmonautes, provoquant un orgasme instantané, et dont le trafic aurait commencé à s'étendre. La musique de cet album est sous forte influence du Funk le plus nonchalant et du Jazz. Le groupe a à son actif quelques succès comme Same Song (composée par George Clinton et Gary Shider), parue en 1991 sur la bande originale du film Nothing But Trouble, dans lequel on aperçoit Tupac Shakur.
